Purpose
To provide information about preparations for Yellow warning for snow issued by the Met Office
Briefing Information
The Met Office has issued a medium impact, Yellow Warning for heavy snow covering all of Perth and Kinross and most of mainland Scotland.
The warning is valid for midnight on Saturday January 5 to noon on Monday January 6.
Outbreaks of snow will likely develop during Sunday and Sunday night, potentially giving some significant accumulations in places.
The greatest risk is in southern and eastern Scotland, where 2-5 cm may accumulate in places, with perhaps as much as 10-20 cm over high ground. Rain or sleet is more likely near some northern and eastern coasts. Temperatures will likely fall below zero, with highs of just 4C expected.
Preparations
Community Resilience Groups
The weather warning has been shared with all Community Resilience Groups to allow for local preparations.
Preparations for heavy snow
Skeleton crews will treat all priority routes on Sunday in preparation.
From 5am Monday the priority routes will be cleared, moving to all crews in at 8am on other routes and footways as required.
The RMP is prepared and monitoring the forecast in case it changes.
Roads are expected to be busy on Monday morning as people return to work and/or school and we have shared information on the yellow weather warning on our social media channels. These will be updated over the weekend and on Monday morning as necessary.
