Purpose
This briefing provides Elected Members with current waiting times for NHS Tayside Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) as requested at Learning and Families Committee on 23 October 2024.
Briefing Information
As per the CAMHS National Service Specification, CAMHS specialist services provide assessment, care and treatment of children and young people experiencing persistent, complex and severe mental health difficulties.
As per the Local Delivery Plan Standards agreed between the Scottish Government and NHS Boards, the standard states that at least 90% of young people should start treatment within 18 weeks of referral to CAMHS.
CAMHS waiting times are reported via the Public Health Scotland Dashboard.
The latest data available is for the quarter ending June 2024 where:
234 children and young people started treatment at CAMHS NHS Tayside
98% of patients were seen within 18 weeks (meeting the LDP Standard and better than the national average of 84.1%)
1.5% of patients were seen within 19-35 weeks
0.5% of patients were seen within 53 or more weeks
It should be noted that since April 2019, the above data (number of referrals and waiting times) do not include referrals to CAMHS where a child or young person is awaiting assessment for a neurodevelopmental condition such as ASD or ADHD.
If you have an enquiry relating to the data outlined here, please contact Public Health Scotland.
