Details
Purpose
This report is a briefing on the delays to the current programme of street weed control in some areas of Perth and Kinross. Normally street weed killing would be complete by mid-August, however it is behind in the following areas:- Aberuthven, Almondbank, Auchterarder, Bankfoot, Bridge of Earn, Comrie, Crieff, Dunning, Forgandenny, Milnathort, Muthill.
This briefing advises on which areas are complete and the programme for completing the remaining areas and should assist with any enquiries from members of the public.
Briefing Information
The weed spraying has been prevented with the wet and windy conditions over the summer, which has resulted in all areas being behind schedule. There have also been some unforeseen contractor issues which have now been addressed and their staffing resource has been increased to have as many areas as possible completed before the season comes to an end when temperatures drop.
Completed areas are:
Kinross-shire
Abernethy, Kinross, Crook of Devon, Powmill, Scotlandwell, Kinnesswood, Glenfarg.
Strathearn
Blackford, Braco, Greenloaning.
Perthshire
Scone, Methven, Luncarty.
There are currently 2 contractors working across Perth & Kinross. The contractor for Highland and Eastern has completed both sprays. The contractor for Strathearn, Kinross, Perth and Scone is behind and will only have one spray completed due to the delays. However, the spraying should result in any remaining street weeds being killed and the appearance of streets in settlements improving.
We will continue to liaise with the contractor covering these areas, and weed spraying should return to normal next season, weather permitting.
